Staying Healthy Even On A Vacation With The Family

With more families going on summer vacation, planning, preparing and getting excited can sometimes divert our minds from a safe and healthy travel. When taking your family on a vacation, watch your food, fluid, rest, exercise, safety, and hygiene for an exciting, fun and healthy family vacation.

travelers especially kids tend to eat mostly junk foods and drink sugary sodas on vacation. For a healthier drive, pack some fresh apples, healthy drink and other good snacks. You can stop by supermarkets to refill your supply of healthy foods. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables as they help keep digestion regular, void excessive fats, oils, sugars, and salts.

Dehydration is a very common problem while traveling especially this summer, that’s why it is important to bring lots of liquid on your trip. Low relative humidity can dehydrate you, even if you barely move all day and it causes headache, irritability, stomach ache, nausea, even constipation. Avoid soda, juice, sport drinks, or ice tea, they are high in sugar and can lead to tissue dehydration. Water is the best choice to stay healthy.

We go for a vacation to rest and relax but oftentimes we forget to stop for a while, instead we are always on the go. Our body and brain get tired and overloaded with information and stimuli, we need to relax for some time. Sleep is critical for the brain to process all the new information you are encountering, take a nap because sometimes accidents happen when we are tired.

Who says exercise is not suitable on a vacation? We need to stretch some muscles from long hours of sitting in a car or plane. Get up and move around every now and then to avoid swelling and aching of joints and muscles. Exercise moderately, don’t overdo it especially if you’ve never done something before.

We can’t avoid accidents of problems when we’re on vacation. What we have to do is relax, and don’t panic. Be careful, be prepared and don’t get paranoid. Always keep a list of emergency numbers of agencies or friends you can call in case some problems come up. Make sure not to let little kids out of your site and other members of the family should have any form of identification with them.

Be careful when using public restrooms, the dirtiest part of them are not the toilet seat but all the handles between the toilet and the door to the outside. This includes the stall handle, the sink handles, the paper towel dispenser handle and the door handle. Wash hands well and open doors with a shirt tail or paper towel.

When traveling we must take care of ourselves so we can enjoy and relax with our family in an unforgettable summer vacation.
